What Is A Filling?
When you have a cavity in its early stages, it’s important to get a dental filling. This is a treatment that fixes the hole created by the decay in your tooth. In the past, silver fillings made of different metals were commonly used. They were noticeable because of their silver color, especially when you laughed or smiled.
But at Port Orange Family Dentistry, we use the latest dental materials. We only use tooth-colored fillings made from a strong material called composite resin. This makes your repaired tooth look more natural while still providing the necessary support. Dental fillings aren’t just for cavities. They’re also great for fixing teeth that are worn down, chipped, or stained, making them work better and look better. For back teeth where strength is the most important, we use composite fillings that blend in seamlessly.
For front teeth, we might use different composite materials to recreate the layers of your natural teeth. We carefully match the color and also consider how light reflects off the different layers, so your restored tooth looks just right. At Port Orange Family Dentistry, we’re dedicated to using the best methods and materials for fillings, so we can keep your smile strong and beautiful.
How long does a cavity filling take?
The duration of a cavity filling procedure largely depends on the size and location of the cavity, as well as the type of filling material being used. Generally, a single filling can take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour. For smaller cavities, the process is relatively quick and can be completed in about 20-30 minutes. However, larger or more complex cavities may require more time, potentially extending the procedure to an hour or more. Keep in mind that this timeframe may vary based on individual circumstances and the specific approach taken by the dentist.
